Faculty Resources

The success of our students is a top priority for both NLU faculty and the Career Development staff.  By working together, we can ensure that our students and alumni achieve their career goals and experience success as future professionals.

To help our students and alumni reach their goals, we offer a variety of valuable services. We actively support members of the NLU community through each stage of their career cycle- whether they are just beginning to investigate possible career options or are seasoned professionals looking to take their career to the next level. Faculty are encouraged to engage with Career Development staff to help their students plan their job search efforts.

Faculty Action Guide - How you can help:

We recognize and appreciate the unique relationship our faculty develop with our students and the powerful impact NLU instructors have on their career paths. We welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty to meet the career development needs of our students.

Here are some ways that faculty can help guide students in their career development:

Refer students to the Career Development office for one on one assistance from our Career Advisors. Our advisors work closely with students and alumni to address their specific career goals, regardless of the stage of their career planning. The earlier we are able to connect with students during their academic path, the better!

Post announcements in D2L for various job fair and campus events.

Distribute flyers in class for upcoming job fairs and career events. Contact us at careerdevelopment@nl.edu for flyers.

Schedule a class presentation. Our Career Advisors can come to your class and present on any of the career topics below that are relevant to your students. We will customize a presentation that speaks to the needs of your class or conduct an overview of our services and resources available. See below for sample topics.

Utilize Career Beam (accessible in the NLU portal) in your class curriculum for career exploration class assignments- ask us how and we can show you.

Encourage your students to use HIRE NLU (accessible in the NLU portal) to request a resume review and to view our NLU job board. The NLU job board is filled with hundreds of job postings specifically targeting NLU graduates. Communicate with students in your program and classes about job openings in your field.

Discuss the importance of starting the job search early in your classes with your students.

Connecting with Employers

In addition to ways you can engage above, faculty are also encouraged to help students engage with prospective employers in their field and also to get involved with Career Development events to talk to employers and network. Career Development invites you to encourage students to be active in their job search and also to be active in working with our office as you become aware of job openings. Here is what you need to know.
