2016 Educator Job Fair

March 1, 2016

1 - 4 p.m.

Lisle Campus

2016 Educator Job Fair Current Exhibitors List, click here.

Why should I go?

  • Meet with school districts to talk about teaching and school personnel jobs
  • Expand your professional network to identify new job search options
  • Learn the recruiter's perspective on the student teaching experience and how to succeed in the education job search

What employers will be there?

Please check back often as we will keep this page updated with the names of schools and organizations attending the 2016 Educators Job Fair.

Do I need to do anything before the Fair?

  • Research is key in ANY job search, but when it comes to an education job fair, research is what will set you apart from the crowd. Pressed for time? Pick your top 5 schools, do the research, and then add more schools as you can.
  • Develop questions to ask the recruiters. It is up to you to keep the conversation going. For example, ask questions about your application-- what qualities are your district principals looking for in their teachers?
  • Prepare a 30-60 second pitch using the Building Your Branding Statement worksheet so that you can convey who you are, your relevant training and experiences, your areas of focus, and why you are unique. This is your chance to demonstrate your knowledge of the organization and to express your interest in them. Think about how your education or experience relates to the organization's needs.

How long should I spend talking to each employer?

In a job fair setting, the interaction should be brief (2-7 minutes). The intent is to provide an outstanding first impression and, if you fit the needs of the district or agency, possibly get invited to an onsite interview. Do not be discouraged if the conversation is short - the professional(s) in attendance are very adept at getting the information they need from you in a concise period of time.

What do I wear?

Schools say first impressions count, so give some thought to what you wear. To help you prepare for the event, we have posted Guidelines for Professional Attire.

What do I do when I get there?

  • Familiarize yourself with the layout: take a minute to review the Fair booklet and room map.
  • When you’re ready, head for your first school, introduce yourself with a smile and firm handshake, then begin your 30-60 pitch.
  • If you’re feeling nervous or need a break, stop by the Career Development Office table… we can asnwer your questions and give you a pep talk.
  • After each conversation with a recruiter, take a minute to write down the topics of conversation on the back of the recruiter's business card so that you have some tidbit to include in your thank you note.

What do I bring to the Fair?

  • Multiple copies of your resume and reference sheets
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Short and organized teaching portfolio (if available)
  • Pen/pencil, notebook

When speaking with recruiters you'll want to have all of these items readily available. If you’re asked for them, you’ll present yourself as a prepared job seeker and serious candidate.
