Intensive one-on-one support tailored to meet each student's individual needs.
The Reading Center at National Louis University will be offering an individualized summer reading program for students entering grades one through twelve at the Lisle and Wheeling campuses. Students enrolled in this program receive diagnostic testing and one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing one hour per day, four mornings per week. Licensed teachers who are completing their graduate degrees to become Reading Specialists tutor the children under the supervision of a university professor.
Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2021!
Program Information
Dates: Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 29, 2021. Children must attend each day for all five weeks. See informational flyers below for details on dates and times of sessions.
Fees: $250.00, program fee payable upon acceptance using our online payment system. In addition, we require a separate attendance deposit of $150.00 upon placement, which will be returned to you if your child does not miss more than one session. Once payment is made, we cannot refund program fees for withdrawals.
Notes:
* Because this is a teaching program for our graduate teachers, we can only accept students who will be able to attend all of the five-week sessions. Do not submit the application if you are planning a trip or have other expectations for missing sessions. The attendance deposit of $150.00 will not be refunded if more than one session is missed.
* Beginning in Summer 2021, our programs will be offered in Lisle and Wheeling. We no longer offer a program in Skokie.
* In case of closed campuses resulting from Covid 19, tutoring will be conducted remotely. Please only apply if you are willing to accept either format.

Program Application
How to Apply:
1. Click here for the Parent Application.
Complete and submit the entire parent portion of the application.
2. The cost of the program is $250, which will be collected if and when your child is placed in the program. If your child is placed, an attendance deposit in the amount of $150 via check will also be collected.
3. Send the link for the SRP School Application to your child’s teacher:
School personnel are required to complete and submit the entire school portion of the application.
Note: The teacher(s) are to complete the school information portion of the application and submit supporting documentation (if necessary). Applications from parents who complete the school section will not be accepted.
Each summer we have more requests for tutoring than we can fill. Therefore, we suggest that parents submit their portion of the application and send the link for the school’s portion to the child’s teacher(s) as soon as possible. Because we are a teaching institution, we are required to meet guidelines set forth by the Illinois State Board of Education and the International Literacy Association. Thus, we must match students and tutors according to those guidelines, which compels us to operate on a modified first come-first serve basis.
Applications are only complete when: 1) Parent application is received; and, 2) School application is received. All forms and must be submitted no later than April 1, 2021.
Program fees will be collected upon acceptance; attendance deposit checks will be held until the end of the summer and returned to parents with the final report, if the child has met the attendance guidelines.
Parents will be notified by May 1, 2021 as to whether space is available for your child in the Summer Reading Improvement Program. If accepted, you will have 7 days to submit payment, which includes the program fee of $250 and the separate attendance deposit of $150. If accepted, your child will be assigned to a one-hour session. We regret that we are unable to honor all requests for specific time slots. If space is not available, your child will be placed on a waiting list. Once students are placed and fees collected, we cannot return fees for withdrawals.
