P.A.C.E. Ahead

P.A.C.E. Ahead is an apartment-style living experience designed to meet the transitional needs of P.A.C.E. at NLU graduates. Young adults with multiple intellectual, learning and developmental disabilities can increase independence with support in personal and social development, employment, and independent living life skills.

P.A.C.E. Ahead provides apartment living for students who want to continue to increase independence, but are not ready to move into an apartment or return home.

• Apartments are located within the P.A.C.E. residence hall, providing the security of a University environment

• Students practice apartment living with a safety net

• Students are eligible to renew service up to 28 years of age if in good standing

Admission

• Eligibility based on completion of NLU’s P.A.C.E. certificate program

• Application and personal statement, as well as an assessment of applicant conducted by P.A.C.E. staff

 Tuition*

• $32,500 per year with residential housing and a meal plan

• $27,500 per year with residential housing and without a meal plan

 Services

• Independent Living Skills

– Students receive 3 hours of weekly individual and group instruction

• Employment

– Students work 4 days a week at internship or paid employment sites while receiving

weekly job development support (job coaching, job search, and employment workshops)

• Social Development

– Students participate in daily clubs, weekly social planning class, and Saturday activities

• Personal Development

– Students can take advantage of health and wellness activities and access to facilitates

P.A.C.E. Beyond

P.A.C.E. Beyond is an extended service opportunity for young adults with multiple intellectual, learning and developmental disabilities living in independent settings. It focuses on employment development and support, independent living life skills, and social development. Services are renewed on a quarterly basis allowing flexibility to increase or decrease frequency and intensity based on needs.

 Admission

• Open to graduates of NLU’s P.A.C.E. program

Tuition and Services*

Based on menu of services, Beyond participants sign up quarterly for support type and frequency. Services run on a 46 week calendar year.

Employment

Option 1: $1,000 per quarter

– 3 hours of weekly job coaching, job search, and/or employment workshop

Option 2: $750 per quarter

– 2 hours weekly job coaching or job search

Option 3: $500 per quarter

– 1 hour weekly job coaching or job search

Independent Living Life Skills

Option 1: $1,000 per quarter

– 3 hours of direct weekly instruction

Option 2: $750 per quarter

– 2 hours of direct weekly instruction

Option 3: $500 per quarter

– 1 hour of direct weekly instruction

 Social Development

– $625 per quarter for Saturday activities

    NLU’s Chicago campus on South Michigan Avenue occupies five floors of the historic Peoples Gas Building. This landmark building, across the street from the Art Institute of Chicago and Grant Park, is easily accessible by train, bus and car and is surrounded by restaurants, parking lots/garages and shops.

The campus includes 44 wireless classrooms equipped with high-tech media equipment; four computer labs with high-speed Internet access, including a walk-in lab in the library; six conference rooms; a public café for beverages and snacks; a student welcome center; a library for research and study; and multiple, comfortable student lounge areas.
