How to Access Your Voicemail

Access Your Voicemails From Your Computer

From OWA

  1. Log in to the Outlook Web App (OWA) at https://owa.nl.edu using your username and password. New voice mails will appear as a new message in your inbox.
  2. Click on the Voice Mail.mp3 attachment to listen to the message in your default media player. Voice mail messages have the same functionality as any other email message (ie. reply, forward, delete).
  3. If you have Windows Media Player installed on your machine, an embedded mp3 player should appear to play the message.
  • The Play on Phone option is not available using OWA.

From Outlook

  1. New voice mails will appear as a new message in your inbox.
  2. Click Play to listen to the voice mail. Voice mail messages have the same functionality as any other email message (ie. reply, forward, delete).
  3. Click Play on Phone in the body of the message to listen to the voice mail from your extension.
  4. The Play on Phone pop-up will appear with your extension listed in the dial menu. Click dial.
  5. Answer your phone once it rings to begin listening to voice mail following the Outlook Voice Access prompts.

Access Your Voicemails by Phone

If calling from a long distance outside location (non-NLU office phone):

  1. Dial 1-844-380-5001 and press 0
  2. Enter your extension and PIN when prompted.

If calling from a local outside location (non-NLU office phone):

  1. Dial 1- 847-947-5600 or dial your full 10 digit NLU phone number and press the * key while listening to the voicemail greeting.

If calling from an on campus NLU phone:

  1. Dial 5600 from a campus phone or press the Messages key

  2. Enter your extension and PIN when prompted.
  3. PIN only if dialing from your own extension
  4. After the automated greeting finishes, say "Voice mail" and messages will begin playing.
  5. Further Options:

    • To go to next message: Press the # key at any time
    • To delete: After a message plays, say "Delete" or press 7 (if using touchtone interface)
    • To reply: After a message plays, say "Reply" or press 8 (if using touchtone interface) then begin recording your message when prompted
    • To forward: After a message plays, say "Forward message" or press 6 (if using touchtone interface) then say the name of the person you wish to forward the message to
    • To return to main menu: After a message plays, say "Main menu" or press the * key (if using touchtone interface)
