from NLU. Offered at both the M.Ed. and Ed.S. levels, this degree opens up wide opportunities for teachers. Choose two concentrations from the list below. Those with an asterisk lead to Illinois teaching endorsements.

[+] Early Childhood Administration (M.Ed.)
For current and aspiring leaders of center and home-based early childhood programs, this program is also appropriate for preschool owners, Head Start coordinators, and consultants who work with early childhood programs.
[+] Learning Sciences Education (M.Ed./Ed.S.)
Develop a deep understanding of elements impacting how people learn and how to design effective learning environments. Explore how technology can aid in student learning. Choose learning technologies for teachers or learning technologies for coaches at the M.Ed. level, or learning technologies for teachers at the Ed.S. level.
[+] Mathematics (M.Ed.)
National Louis University's mathematics education program is designed to help expand teachers' math expertise or help them achieve their middle school mathematics endorsement.
[+] Reading (M.Ed.)
For teachers who are interested in further developing their teaching skills or meeting the eligibility requirement to be a reading teacher or specialist. Teachers can earn either their state reading teacher or reading specialist endorsement upon completion.
[+] Special Education (M.Ed.)
This NLU special education program prepares candidates for a variety of roles working with children and adolescents with exceptional learning needs, such as special education teachers and learning behavior specialists. The program includes LBS1 endorsement by entitlement.
[+] Teacher Leadership (M.Ed./Ed.S.)
Become a leader and mentor in your school community, while staying in the classroom. Coach fellow teachers and lead school improvement efforts to improve teaching and learning at your school.
[+] Teaching, Learning and Assessment (M.Ed.)
Today's learners are more diverse than ever in background, culture and learning needs. Shape effective curricula and support individual student success while still keeping an eye on standardized testing and evaluations.

Or choose from 12+ other endorsement options including bilingual education, ESL, special education, reading, math, teacher leader and more. Choose one, or stack them toward your graduate degree.

Choose a Subsequent Teaching Endorsement to add a PEL to expand your grade level or content area.

LEAD IN THE SCHOOL OR DISTRICT

[+] Educational Leadership (M.Ed./Ed.S.)
Improved to meet Illinois' new licensure requirements, this education program is designed for certified and experienced teachers who want to take on leadership roles, including principal positions, in K-12 educational settings. Choose from two tracks, general administrative endorsement track or education leadership (non-endorsement) track.
[+] Doctor of Teaching and Learning (Ed.D.)

The doctoral programs at NLU are aimed at students who want to be leaders in the following fields of education:

  • Curriculum, advocacy, and policy
  • Disability and equity in education
  • Postsecondary teaching and instructional leadership
  • Reading, language, and literacy

[+] Doctor in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.)

Designed to meet the needs of school leaders who are post-masters and want to achieve advanced specialization in one of these areas:

SUPPORT STUDENTS OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

[+] School Psychology (Ed.S.)
NLU's school psychology program is one of only three education psychology programs in the Chicago area that are fully accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Students graduate prepared to work in education psychology or leadership roles in their districts, and they are experienced in functional assessments and education psychology interventions that improve student outcomes. They are eligible for a state school psychologist endorsement and NCSP certification.

    Opened in the summer of 2006, NLU North Shore at Skokie is a state-of-the-art modern campus located just off the Edens Expressway near the Old Orchard Shopping Center. The campus includes 44 wireless classrooms equipped with high-tech media equipment; four computer labs with high-speed Internet access, including a walk-in lab in the library; six conference rooms; a public café for beverages and snacks; a student welcome center; a library for research and study; and multiple, comfortable student lounge areas.

    Located in one of Chicago's major northwest suburbs, the newly renovated NLU Wheeling includes 20 classrooms with high-tech media equipment, four conference rooms, four computer labs with high-speed Internet access, large student lounge areas with wireless capabilities and interactive video capabilities, and an extensive research library. The site also houses the university library research collection.
