ENDORSEMENTS

Earn an education endorsement at NLU as a stand-alone series of courses. NLU's endorsements match teacher shortage areas and meet the needs of educators at every career stage.

[+] Bilingual Education Endorsement
Bilingual education is a designated teacher shortage area in the state of Illinois. National Louis University's Bilingual Endorsement program provides you with the coursework required to help fill in-demand bilingual teaching positions in local schools.
[+] Director of Special Education Endorsement
This NLU endorsement prepares licensed professional educators, including special education teachers, for leadership and administrative roles in Special Education—an area experiencing a high need for qualified professionals in Illinois.
[+] Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement
This NLU endorsement prepares students to become special education teachers for children with disabilities up to age 5.
[+] English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement
ESL education is a designated teacher shortage area in the state of Illinois. National Louis University's ESL Endorsement program provides you with the coursework required to help fill in-demand teaching positions in local schools.
[+] LBS I Endorsement
Special education teachers are in high-demand in Illinois. Earn your Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement to enhance your employability and prepare to work with students who have exceptional learning needs.
[+] LBS II Endorsement
Curriculum Adaptation Specialist—prepares candidates to select or design accommodations or adaptations to the general curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities ages 3-21.

Transition Specialist—prepares candidates in foundations, planning, teaching and assessment skills to serve students with disabilities longitudinally, ages 3-21 for an effective school to post-school transition.
[+] Reading Specialist Endorsement
The Reading Specialist Endorsement from National Louis University is designed for licensed teachers who are interested in deepening their understanding of teaching reading and becoming a certified Reading Specialist. The reading sequence fulfills the state of Illinois guidelines for the preparation of Reading Specialists.
[+] Teacher Leader Endorsement
When you earn your Teacher Leader endorsement at National Louis University, you will be prepared to lead in a wide range of areas, from coaching and mentoring teachers to designing curricula and assessing learning. You will function as an expert practitioner, applying assessment to improve the learning of each student while conducting action research on your own teaching.

Improved to meet Illinois' new licensure requirements, this education program is designed for certified and experienced teachers who want to take on leadership roles, including principal positions, in K-12 educational settings. Choose the General Administrative Endorsement track to earn your Administrator endorsement—plus qualify for a scholarship worth 20% of tuition costs.
[+] M.Ed. in Special Education
This NLU Special Education program prepares candidates for a variety of roles working with children and adolescents with exceptional learning needs, such as special education teachers and learning behavior specialists. The program includes LBS1 endorsement by entitlement.
[+] M.Ed. in Reading
For teachers who are interested in further developing their teaching skills or meeting the eligibility requirement to be a Reading Teacher or Specialist. Teachers can earn either their state Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist endorsement upon completion.
[+] M.Ed. in Learning Technologies (Also online)
NLU's Learning Technologies degree helps you learn how to effectively incorporate technology into the curriculum and into your teaching practices. As schools continue to shift toward technologically-integrated classrooms, this education program will give you the competitive edge to obtain and secure your desired position. You can also choose to earn your state Technology Specialist Endorsement upon completion.

SUBSEQUENT TEACHING ENDORSEMENTS

Current teachers, administrators or other school professionals can add a subsequent teaching certification to their Professional Educators License in order to expand or transition into additional education content areas.

Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for elementary, middle grades, secondary or special education may add an early childhood education endorsement through this NLU teaching certification program.

Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for early childhood, middle grades, secondary or special education may add an elementary education endorsement through this NLU teaching certification program.

Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for early childhood, elementary, secondary or special education may add a middle grades education endorsement through this NLU teaching certification program.
