Scholarships for Undocumented Students at National Louis University
Part of National Louis University’s mission and values is to provide access to higher education. NLU has sought resources for undocumented students to enable them to achieve their dream of attaining a college education. NLU is pleased to offer the following scholarship options for undocumented students.
State of Illinois MAP Grant
Undocumented students are encouraged to apply for the State MAP grant. The Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act creates a pathway for the undocumented and transgender students to apply for the state Monetary Award Program (MAP). Read more.
NLU Eagle Dream Scholarship
For the academic year, 2021-2022, National Louis University is offering multiple scholarships of $5,355 each - covering up to half of the UGC Full-Time Freshman annual tuition. The award is renewable for up to four consecutive years.
Eligibility
- Be a student who is undocumented
- Meet the admissions requirements of NLU (2.0 GPA, less than 30 quarter hours)
- Plan to attend as a UGC full-time day-time student in fall 2021
Application Process
- Get admitted to NLU as a freshman for Fall 2021 before April 1, 2021
- Schedule and complete an interview with a member of the NLU Enrollment Team and a representative of the Office of Student Finance. Invitations to schedule interviews will be emailed to admitted students. Interview time slots will open for sign up April 2, 2021 at nl.edu/eagledream.
- Submit a signed promissory note and payment plan
- Make the $50 tuition deposit
Awards
Winners will be announced by April 30, 2021.
* Students must meet the terms of the scholarship agreement, maintain satisfactory academic progress and register for at least 15 credit hours per term at NLU.
TheDream.US Scholarship
National Louis University is a partner school of TheDream.US, an organization that provides scholarships for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or TPS (Temporary Protective Status) eligible or approved students. The scholarship amount is up to $33,000 (plus stipend up to $1,000) toward an undergraduate degree. As a partner school, NLU will charge a reduced rate for tuition and fees.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Demonstrate significant financial need
- Letter of recommendation required
- Student essays required
First-time college students:
- High school GPA of 2.5 or higher
- No earned college credit (excluding dual credit, AP or CLEP)
- Be accepted and enrolled full-time for the next academic year
Transfer Students:
- Must have completed an associate’s degree and graduated from a community college
- 3.0 transfer GPA
- Cannot be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program
Scholarship renewal
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Remain continuously enrolled full time
- DACA/TPS status
- Must apply for renewal every year in their Dream.US portal
- Meet eligibility requirements or have an approved exception
Deadlines
- Application deadline: 2/28/21 to enroll for the 2021-2022 academic year
- Application decision notification: end of April

Please Note: All National Louis Scholarships require U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status. Undocumented students who meet the criteria may apply to receive the NLU Eagle Dream Scholarship and NLU Merit scholarships. International students who meet the criteria may apply to receive the NLU Alumni Scholarship and PTK Scholarship.
