MAP Grant Option For Undocumented And Transgender Students

NEW FOR THE 2020-2021SCHOOL YEAR!!!

The application is now available! The Retention of Illinois Students & Equity (RISE) Act, effective with the 2020 -2021 school year, creates a pathway for the Undocumented and transgender students to apply for the state Monetary Award Program (MAP). Students must meet the RISE Act criteria and program eligibility requirements. The RISE Act allows eligible undocumented students and transgender students who are disqualified from federal financial aid to apply for MAP.

  • Undocumented Students may be eligible to apply for ISAC’s programs if they are “any person who is deemed an Illinois resident for tuition purposes under state law”. You must meet certain eligibility criteria.  Please read more.
  • Transgender Students are also included in those eligible to apply for financial aid under the RISE Act. The RISE Act provides an application process for state financial aid consideration other than using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), which is used to qualify for both federal and state aid. Transgender students may choose the application process that best suits their individual situation.

RISE Act/Alternative Application for MAP

To accommodate RISE Act-eligible students (both undocumented and transgender students), ISAC has created an Illinois-specific online application for MAP grants, referred to as the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid.

How to Apply:

The application is now available at the Illinois Student Aid Commission’s (ISAC’s) website:

The application, patterned after the FAFSA, is now available for the 2020-21 academic year. The application is not currently compatible with mobile devices.
