NCE Director of Policy Studies at AACTE's Washington Week
Associate Professor Todd Price has reported on his participation at 2019 Washington Week, convened each June in the nation's capital by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). Dr. Price is a Board Member of the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE), the Illinois chapter of AACTE.
Two key events attended by Dr. Price were the State Leaders Institute and Day on the Hill.
The State Leaders Institute brought together leaders from across the country to continue to strengthen the role of the state chapter in being a voice for the profession.
Day on the Hill, the signature component of Washington Week, provided the opportunity to engage with elected officials and their staff on Capitol Hill. Dr. Price and other leaders from state chapters met with respective congressional representatives, discussing teacher shortages and the need for more diversity in the teaching force. Visits were held with the offices of Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and also U.S. Representatives Bryan Steil (Wisconsin 1st District) and Mike Bost (Illinois 12th District).
