Associate Professor Todd Price has reported on the first stage of his Fall 2019 Sabbatical Leave.
Dr. Price is involved with a network of scholars in Reconnecting Education: Democracy and Pedagogy, an educational theorizing activity which centers on democracy and education and aspires to share knowledge, build cross-college collaboration, lead through conference presentations, and ultimately to stimulate innovative and creative curricular design efforts with co-researching and teaching in mind.
As part of this project, Dr. Price and his group presented at ECER 2019: Education in an Era of Risk - the Role of Educational Research for the Future, held in September on the University of Hamburg campus in Germany. Their session, "Theorizing Education: A dialogue between philosophy, pädagogik/pedagogikk, and curriculum studies," was attended by a standing room only audience. The paper Dr. Price presented at this session was entitled, "After Currere: The Meaning of Education in North American Curriculum Studies."
Following the conference, the project continued with a professional development collaboration, participation in a series of seminars, and several additional presentations. Through these opportunities, Dr. Price indicates that cross-institutional and national partnerships become more viable for advancing the respective fields of education.
