Practice-Based Teaching PLC in Action at NCE
On Thursday, February 20, about 20 faculty members from Teacher Preparation and Advanced Professional Programs met at the North Shore Campus for the 2nd Practice-Based Teaching Retreat of the year. Associate Professor Sophie Degener and Assistant Professor Aleksandra Veselovsky, co-chairs of this professional learning community (PLC), served as the retreat's facilitators.
At the meeting, faculty shared artifacts and other evidence of their work in teaching students core practices such as leading a discussion, providing feedback, and eliciting student thinking. Faculty also considered their top priorities for graduating students and how the core practices contribute to those priorities.
The PLC learned that a top priority for many was ensuring that our graduates understand ideas around social justice and anti-racism; the group looks forward to continued efforts to utilize core practices in promoting those ideas.
