NCE Welcomes New Faculty

The National College of Education is pleased to welcome two new faculty members.

Bilge Cerezci picture Bilge Cerezci, Ph.D. began her career as an educator in Turkey.  After earning a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education from Bosphorus University in Istanbul, she nurtured the development of young minds as a teacher in Turkish preschools.

Dr. Cerezci moved to Chicago in 2007 to pursue graduate studies at the Erikson Institute and completed her master’s degree in child development with an infancy specialization in 2009.  She was awarded her Ph.D. in applied child development from Loyola University Chicago and the Erikson Institute in 2017.

During her doctoral studies, Dr. Cerezci worked for the Erikson Institute’s Early Math Collaborative, which was launched in 2007 to enhance the quality of early math education by helping preschool and early elementary school teachers incorporate effective early math instruction into their classrooms.  Her dissertation focused on the refinement of a new tool designed to measure the quality of mathematics instruction in preschools and elementary schools.

Dr. Cerezci has also served as a faculty member in the Child Development Department of the City Colleges of Chicago, the Teacher Education Department at Loyola University Chicago, and Curriculum and Instruction Department at St. John’s University in New York.  Her work has appeared in numerous national and international academic journals including Early Education and Development, Journal of Vincentian Social Action and Early Childhood Education.


Jennifer Schultz picture Jennifer Engelland-Schultz, Ph.D. earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Illinois State University and her M.A. in Teaching and B.S. in Psychology and Sociology from Olivet Nazarene University. 

Dr. Engelland-Schultz previously worked as a school psychologist serving diverse students and families in public schools across several regions of Illinois.  She is especially passionate about providing effective social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health programs and services to students and families within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS).

The research of Dr. Engelland-Schultz has focused on the impact of positive school climate and the effectiveness of social-emotional learning programs.  She conducted research for the Livingston County Children’s Network.  Dr. Engelland-Schultz is committed to creating safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments that meet the needs of all students and families
