NCE at Conference Featuring State Superintendent
Sherri Bressman (Director, Teacher Preparation), Lisa Mozer (Director, Field Experience), Ayn Keneman (ECE), Xiaoning Chen (ESL), Barbara Gomez (ESL Adjunct), Kristin Lems (ESL), Dana Piraino (ESL Adjunct), and Jason Stegemoller (ESL) attended Multilingual Illinois 2019, the 43rd Annual Statewide Conference for Teachers Serving Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Students.
The Special Evening Event at the conference featured Dr. Carmen I. Ayala. With the strong support of Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the Illinois State Board of Education named Dr. Ayala as the 30th State Superintendent of Education, making her the first woman and first person of color to serve as the permanent superintendent.
The event also included a screening of No Small Matter, an Early Learning documentary highlighting the importance of early learning and brain science. After the film, Sylvia Puente, Executive Director of the Latino Policy Forum, moderated a panel to discuss the film. It was a valuable educational conference for all NLU attendees.
