Associate Professor Vito Dipinto and alum Anthony Tournis co-authored the chapter "...It Was a Terrible Mistake!": Science, Chemistry, and Storytelling, published in Chemistry Student Success: A Field-Tested, Evidence-Based Guide on March 25 by the American Chemical Society. Anthony earned his M.A.T. in Secondary Education from NLU in 2014, and is currently the K-5 STEM Teacher at Peterson Elementary, CPS.
The focus of their chapter is how to use storytelling and children's picture storybooks as a strategy for teaching physical science, especially chemistry, at the middle and high school levels. Science Is A Story becomes both a metaphor for engaging students in the study of science and an actual "teachnique" for doing so.
