Alums Honored in 2021 Teacher of the Year Programs
The Illinois State Board of Education sponsors the Illinois Teacher of the Year program, recognizing the best of the teaching profession in Illinois.
The 2021 Illinois Teacher of the Year Awardees have been announced and include the following NLU alumni:
- Precious Allen '10, B.A. in Elementary Education; '14 M.Ed. in Reading; Ed.S. Candidate
Cook County Co-regional Teacher of the Year
Teaches elementary at Betty Shabazz International Charter School in Chicago
- Kathleen Duffy '10, M.Ed. in Secondary Education; '20 Ed.S. in Educational Leadership
North Suburbs Regional Teacher of the Year
Teaches social studies at Barrington High School in District 220
- Traci Krueger '16, M.Ed. (ESL/Special Education)
Cook County Co-regional Teacher of the Year
Teaches elementary at John Mills Elementary School in District 401 Elmwood Park
- Veronica Rodriguez '12, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (ESL/Bilingual Education)
Bilingual Teacher of the Year
Teaches elementary & dual language at Low Elementary School in District 59 Arlington Hts
In addition, an NLU alumna is among the seven educators selected as finalists for the 2021 Colorado Teacher of the Year:
- Tricia Kearns '01, M.S.Ed. in Science Education
Teaches science and health at Webber Middle School in Fort Collins, CO
