Recent NCE Faculty Presentations
National and International presentations from NCE faculty from the past few months:
- Associate Professor and Director of Policy Studies Todd Price was invited to present as a Keynote Speaker at the 6th International Congress on Curriculum and Instruction (ICCI-EPOK 2018) held October 11-13 at Kafkas University in Kars, Turkey. Dr. Price's keynote speech was entitled, "Curriculum Studies: A Handbook for the 21st Century." In addition, Dr. Price was invited to visit Turkish schools in Adana, observing what are practices by high school teachers and what are some of the ways in which policy is translated.
- Associate Professor Kamau Rashid presented "Beyond the Fetters of Colonialism: Du Bois, Nkrumah, and a Pan-African Critical Theory" at the American Educational Studies Association Annual Conference held November 7-11 in Greenville, South Carolina.
- Professor Efrat Sara Efron was an invited speaker at a conference organized by Harriman Institute at Columbia University in New York on November 9. The conference, Legacy, Pedagogy, Children's Rights, was devoted to Janusz Korczak. Dr. Efron's presentation was entitled, "Practical Implications of Korczak's Pedagogical Legacy for Educators Today."
- Professor Mark Newman and Assistant Professor Xiaoning Chen co-presented a workshop titled, "Exploring Inquiry and Visual Literacy for All Learners: Industrial Revolution" at the 98th Annual Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies held November 29-December 2 in Chicago, Illinois.
- Assistant Professors Mary Hoch and Ryan McCarty represented NCE last week at the Literacy Research Association Annual Conference in Indian Wells, California. Dr. Hoch chaired a session on "Examining Literacy Learning in Content Areas." Dr. McCarty gave a presentation entitled, " 'We can do this': Design-Based Research on Dialogic Writing Instruction to Help Latinx Students Excel in Advanced Coursework."
- This past Monday, Assistant Professor Renee Gugel is presenting "Let Them Lead: Sharing Leadership as an Avenue for School and Student Success" at the Raising Student Achievement Conference held by the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents in St. Charles, Illinois.
