Faculty Spotlight on Professor Dipinto
On December 3, Associate Professor Vito Dipinto spent the day with 7th and 8th graders at Dever Elementary School (CPS). Andrew Bean (M.A.T. Elementary Education '12) has invited Dr. Dipinto to collaborate and co-teach classes several times a year for the past six years. The 8th graders investigated "Oobleck or What's the Matter with Matter." The 7th graders explored "Legoman." Both of these learning experiences provide students with opportunities to engage in the scientific endeavor and begin to understand that science is a way of thinking not doing.
On December 7, for the sixth year in a row, Dr. Dipinto judged Dever's Science Fair.
On December 17, Dr. Dipinto brings his storytelling magic to a group of 1st graders at Goethe Elementary School (CPS). Their teacher, T.James Poulos (M.A.T. Secondary Education/Physical Science '18 anticipated), is also a storyteller and puppeteer. Dr. Dipinto engages his students during storytelling with items in a hat or "What's in Dr. D's Hat?" The stories told are from books which are shared with the students.
