- An article by Professor Kristin Lems, "New Ideas for Teaching English Using Songs and Music," has been published in the latest issue of English Teaching Forum, a publication of the U.S. Department of State's American English division. The article by Dr. Lems is also available on the American English website as a free download.
- Assistant Professor James Fitzpatrick wrote a Letter to the Editor indicating that "the time is now to address gun laws." Published in two southern Wisconsin newspapers, the letter is available to read in the Beloit Daily News and has also appeared in the Daily Jefferson County Union.
- Assistant Professor Angela Elkordy and Adjunct Faculty Nicole Zumpano had their book chapter "Hive-Minded: Educators, Professional Learning Networks, and Knowledge Exchange in the Digital Age" published in Digital Workplace Learning.This chapter explores how, why, and when educators in K-20 contexts connect through digital knowledge networks.
- Distinguished Professor of Practice Carlos Azcoitia co-authored an article with Ted Purinton, former chair of NCE's Department of Educational Leadership, and Karen Carlson, NCE alumna. "Deciphering the Magic of Community School Leadership" has just been published in Phi Delta Kappan, February 2018, Vol. 99, No. 5. The article explains that to build and maintain a genuine partnership between the school and those it serves requires sophisticated leadership.
- Assistant Professor Mariana Ricklefs has an article published, "(In)Compatibility between Educators' Linguistic Ideologies and its Influence in the Instruction of Latina/o Students in a Bilingual Program," in the peer-reviewed Journal of Bilingual Education Research and Instruction, Winter 2017, Vol. 19, pp. 28-51. This article is a qualitative research case study of educators' ideologies and their influence in an educational program for English Learners (EL) at an elementary public school in the Midwest.
- Associate Professors Jeffrey Winter and Todd Price have the lead article in the current issue of Critical Issues in Teacher Education: The Journal of the Illinois Association of Teacher Educators, Vol XXV, 2018. The title of their article is, "Consequential edTPA: Perceptions of Teacher Candidates Regarding edTPA Preparation and Implementation."
- An article by Assistant Professor Mary Hoch was just published in the Illinois Reading Council Journal. Entitled Print to Screen, A Scaffolded Approach to Digital Literacy Development, this article highlights research conducted in The Reading Center at NLU during its Summer Reading Improvement Program in 2016.
