National Louis University’s National College of Education (NCE) takes an active role in the continuing effort to improve the education system in the U.S. Our faculty receives funding and support to develop new methods of reaching students and strengthening the teaching profession.

McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership (Wheeling campus)

The McCormick Center is dedicated to building the leadership potential of early childhood educators through professional development, evaluation, research and public awareness.

Center for Teaching through Children’s Books (Skokie campus)

The center advocates excellence in teaching with quality literature for children and adolescents, encompassing multicultural voices, social justice issues, outreach activities, digital books and resources, and partnerships with schools, libraries and other organizations.

Center for Practitioner Research (Skokie campus)

The center promotes practitioner research as an essential form of educational research, fostering collaborative scholarship that contributes to knowledge, practice, advocacy and policy in education.

Illinois Reading Recovery Center for Literacy (Lisle campus)

The center supports Reading Recovery, an early intervention program for first graders experiencing extreme difficulty learning to read and write, through a progress monitoring system, continuing education for Reading Recovery teachers, and research and evaluation.

The Reading Center (Skokie campus)

The center provides student instruction, professional development, district, school and classroom consultation and  research. The center functions as a training site for graduate students in the Reading Specialist program, as well as for a selected group of undergraduate trainees. The Reading Center also houses a reading curriculum center as well as a collection of children's literature used for instruction.


    NLU’s Chicago campus on South Michigan Avenue occupies five floors of the historic Peoples Gas Building. This landmark building, across the street from the Art Institute of Chicago and Grant Park, is easily accessible by train, bus and car and is surrounded by restaurants, parking lots/garages and shops.

    Opened in the summer of 2006, NLU North Shore at Skokie is a state-of-the-art modern campus located just off the Edens Expressway near the Old Orchard Shopping Center. The campus includes 44 wireless classrooms equipped with high-tech media equipment; four computer labs with high-speed Internet access, including a walk-in lab in the library; six conference rooms; a public café for beverages and snacks; a student welcome center; a library for research and study; and multiple, comfortable student lounge areas.
