Management Information Systems Jobs

If you're interested in learning how to effectively apply and manage information technology to address business needs, then a career in management information systems might just be perfect for you. A B.S. in Management Information Systems (MIS) degree prepares you for a successful career developing and managing information technology systems for businesses. NLU's management information systems degree program introduces students to trends in IT development, as well as IT strategy, processes and infrastructure. You'll refine your technological savvy, develop a deeper understanding of managing innovation, gain valuable IT project management skills, and develop your critical thinking and problem solving skills—all necessary for succeeding in this dynamic field.

Information Systems Manager

Information systems managers, also called IT managers, are responsible for planning and directing a business' computer-related activities, determining information technology goals, and implementing IT systems designed to meet those goals.1 As an information systems manager, you'll work to make sure a business' computer systems are safe, reliable and effective. This might include creating and implementing a technology plan, selecting and installing software, troubleshooting technology problems, and providing technical support for an organization's employees.2

Network Manager

Network managers set up and oversee the software and hardware a business uses to create networks, including equipment like servers, routers and other devices. Both local and non-local networks are essential to a business, because they allow employees to connect and utilize resources both within the company and around the world. A network manager's specific duties depend on the kind of business he or she works for, but usually include creating and maintaining networks within a business, in addition to ensuring those networks are safe and secure.3

Other Careers in Management Information Systems

In addition to information systems manager and network manager, some of the most popular careers for MIS grads include:

  • Website Manager
  • Database Administrator
  • Data Network Security Administrator
