Financial Aid Eligibility
In order to receive financial aid you must meet the following criteria:
- Complete the FAFSA each year
- Be admitted to and enroll in an eligible program as a regular student seeking a degree or certificate
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
- Have a valid Social Security Number (unless you're from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia or the Republic of Palau)
- Please note that only the student must have a Social Security Number. If your parents do not have a SSN you are still eligible to complete the FAFSA. Your parents should enter all zeros when submitting their information
- Register with the Selective Service if required. If you’re a male, aged 18 through 25 and you have not registered, you can, at the same time you complete your FAFSA, give the Selective Service System permission to register you by means of the FAFSA. You can also register online at www.sss.gov.
- Not have certain drug convictions. Further information is available online at http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/criminal-convictions.
- Meet the eligibility requirements for each aid program from which you accept financial aid
- Not be receiving aid at another college or university simultaneously
- Be enrolled at least half-time. Half-time status is defined as 6 hours or more for undergraduate students
- Demonstrate financial need (for most types of financial aid). Need is the difference between the amount of contribution expected from you and your family and the cost of attendance.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the NLU requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
