Who's Who at NLU

Danielle Laban is the Director of Student Experience. The Office of Student Experience provides support and services throughout the student’s entire NLU experience from Orientation to Commencement. Under Danielle’s leadership, NLU has increased the number of student organizations, organized several family friendly events, and dramatically improved resources to support students who need mental health counseling. Danielle also serves as the Title IX Coordinator and chairs our Behavior Intervention Team. Student Experience is always looking for faculty who are interested in helping cultivate our student leaders. If you would like to learn more, visit our robust website for more information on the holistic support we provide our students.

Did You Know?

As you know, revamping the adjunct evaluation system was part of the charge of the Adjunct Life Cycle (ALC) task force, along with the HLC credentialing process and the expansion of the online adjunct orientation. The latter two projects were completed by the ALC task force and have become institutionalized processes.

After the adjunct evaluation pilot run by the task force last spring/summer, it became apparent that the piloted system, which involved classroom observations of teaching for every adjunct, was an unsustainable system. In order to augment the current system of evaluation, we thought it would be helpful to try to coordinate the existing data for adjunct faculty into a dashboard. This would make information like the IDEA scores, credentials, number and type of courses taught, FLAC data, etc. more accessible and organized for those delegated by the Deans to handle the evaluations and to make effective staffing decisions. It would also provide a centralized location for some of the documentation used for accreditation and compliance efforts.

To that end, the Provost, HR and the Adjunct Council have charged a new work group (comprised of Adjunct and Full-Time Faculty, Staff and Program Chairs/Coordinators) with the development of the dashboard. The team is looking to pilot the new system this summer and hope to have a dashboard operationalized shortly thereafter.  More information will come as we enter the pilot phase.
