Reviews of the M.S. in Written Communication Program

The NLU program was such a fantastic experience, and I wanted to let you know that it has led to me receiving a marketing internship at the Lyric Opera. During the interview, they mentioned it was having NLU’s written communication program on my resume that jumped out at them. All the classes in the program were so wonderful as well as the experiences of Mosaic, Writers’ Week, and the play festival.

Finding the right job after a 15-year absence from full-time employment was a real challenge, so I was thrilled to be offered a marketing communications job for a global company. During the interview process, I explained how the MSWC program was unique in allowing me to build both my business and creative writing skills. This combination was especially appealing to a marketing hiring team. In fact, my interviewers expressed that they consider my MSWC studies and forthcoming master's degree from National Louis University as important assets to the organization.

I’m thrilled to tell you about my new job, thanks to you and NLU. I will now be an e-commerce channel manager, where I will be responsible for merchandising the company's products on its website. During my interview, they were asking how my skills match the job description, and I told them that I am towards the end of my master’s program where I have learned how to be a great writer. That actually sealed the deal for this job. This new position will require me to write copy about the products on the website as well as write catchy posts about the products on the company's social media pages... I'm a writer!

I was just offered a promotion at (a leading insurance company) this past week. I'm going to be starting a new role where I'm responsible for improving the communication between the call centers and the agencies. It's a brand new role, and I'm so excited to finally have a position in the communications field!

I wanted to tell you how thoroughly I enjoyed the program. I know that my recent promotion was due, in large part, to the skills I've earned from the NLU program, and I'm so grateful to have had this opportunity.

I just wanted to give you an update on a recent job change of mine. I recently started a job as a marketing and communications manager for a healthcare company in Oak Brook. A large part of this job is writing, copyediting and directing others' writing. In my interview, they mentioned that one of the main things that attracted them to me, in addition to my experience, was my degree.

Graduating from National Louis University’s written communication program definitely helped my professional technical writing career over the last 10 years. The diverse course offerings strengthened my ability to merge the technical with the creative aspects of writing. The other major benefit of the program is the chance to be published in a literary magazine. MOSAIC is a literary space necessary for graduate students to build confidence in their writing and a notable publishing opportunity that helped shape the path of my artistic endeavors.

Enrollment into the master of science in written communication program at NLU has been one of my best decisions. As a result of the knowledge and experience I’ve attained through my coursework and editorial internship, new career opportunities have become available. I’m forever grateful to Joanne B. Koch for her guidance, leadership and inspiration.
