Learning Behavior Specialist II Endorsements

Teachers, administrators or school service professionals with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) can take National Louis University coursework to add a Learning Behavior Specialist II (LBS II) Endorsement to their teaching license. There are three non-degree special education program options offered for the LBS II Endorsement: Curriculum Adaptation Specialist, Technology Specialist, and Transition Specialist.

Please note, the Special Education LBS II Endorsements are only available to teachers who hold a Professional Educators License (PEL) with an LBS I Endorsement (PK-21).

Learning Behavior Specialist Options

The LBS II Curriculum Adaptation Specialist program prepares candidates to select or design accommodations or adaptations to the general curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities ages 3-21. The program prioritizes translating research into practice, fostering collaboration among professionals, integrating technology into instruction, selecting and/or designing curricular and instructional adaptations for students ages 3-21 working in the general curriculum, and curriculum-based assessment.

The LBS II Technology Specialist program prepares candidates to identify, obtain and teach with technologies for students with disabilities. Candidates will be prepared to assess a student's technology needs and to integrate such technology into the daily instruction and routine for the student. The program will prepare candidates to provide consultation to colleagues and families regarding technologies. The program prioritizes translating research into practice, fostering collaboration among professionals, and the coordination of interdisciplinary services and case management within the school.

The LBS II Transition Specialist program prepares candidates in foundations, planning, teaching and assessment skills to serve students with disabilities longitudinally, ages 3-21 for an effective school to post-school transition. The program prioritizes integrating theory and research into practice and fostering collaboration among students, families, professionals and agencies. Candidates will learn how to develop community and vocational experiences and instruct students with disabilities in these areas. Varied planning, instructional and evaluation strategies are taught so candidates will have the skills to formally and informally support students with disabilities to be successful in the workplace and community.
