Areas of Expertise:

Health Information Technology, Healthcare Operations

I have extensive leadership experience in both healthcare operations and information technology for the last 15 years, and healthcare overall for the past 30 years. I initially entered the healthcare field as a cardiac step down and critical nurse in the 1990’s. After making the switch from bedside care to healthcare management, I went back to school to pursue dual master degrees in both healthcare administration and informatics as the rise of the electronic health record had just begun at that time. I felt strongly that both programs complemented each other and that in order to truly transform the way we deliver care to patients here in the U.S., expertise in both disciplines were required.

I have been and Adjunct Instructor at National Louis University for the last 11 years primarily for the Healthcare Leadership and MHA programs.

I am currently employed as a senior level administrator supporting the electronic health record application for 4 hospitals and 75 hospital outpatient departments in a large metropolitan healthcare system.  I often advise executive leaders on how to leverage technology to aid in standardizing care and also utilize analytics at the bedside to improve outcomes for patients.

I created a company in 2008 that designed and developed educational programs in the field of health information technology adoption. Medical Informatics certificates were awarded at completion of the 13-month program. Coursework focused on the discipline of medical informatics and its impact on the adoption of the EHR to improve outcomes, engage patients and transform healthcare.

Research and Interests:

The use of technology and analytics in the hands of clinicians at the time of patient care is a definite passion of mine.  Accurate and timely information presented in the right format, at the right time can be an invaluable tool for my fellow clinicians to utilize as they care for their patients.  Additionally, that same data on a larger scale can be critical for healthcare leaders as they make decisions and strategize for their particular service lines and organizations. Technology inherently promotes change, and by utilizing it for the right scenarios, we are able to transform healthcare one organization at a time.
