Dr. Ricklefs is a professional educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience with children at-risk, EFL and ESL students, bilingual and multilingual students, and children with Learning Disabilities, across age groups and ability levels. Dr. Ricklefs has worked as a teacher at private and public elementary and secondary schools. Dr. Ricklefs has also taught university students in teacher education programs at Bradley University, Illinois State University, and at the Central American Jesuit University in El Salvador. Dr. Ricklefs has been a trainer of teachers working with students with language and learning difficulties enrolled at public schools. Dr. Ricklefs has experience as a learning disabilities consultant for projects overseas funded by USAID (United States Agency for International Development) and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund). Dr. Ricklefs has also worked as a licensed school psychologist and educational therapist in El Salvador. She has traveled to several countries in five continents for professional and personal purposes. She is multilingual and multiliterate and enjoys to continue learning about different languages and cultures. Dr. Ricklefs is a former Fulbright scholar. Dr. Ricklefs received an Emerging Scholar Award from the International Interdisciplinary Social Sciences professional organization in Summer 2018, in recognition of her impressive research-scholarship work thus far.

Research and Interests:

Dr. Ricklefs has research experience and interests in instructional methodologies and strategies for students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, including bilingual, multilingual, and special education students. She is also interested in sociocultural, linguistic, and ideological factors and approaches that enhance the literacy and content-area learning of English Language Learners. She has published articles in peer reviewed research journals. She has presented in conferences of several state and international professional organizations.
