Dr. Caroline Perjessy is an Associate Professor and Director of the Counselor Education & Supervision Doctoral program at NLU at the Tampa-Florida Regional campus. She obtained her PhD in Counseling and Human Development Services from Kent State University, a CACREP-Accredited program, in Kent, Ohio. Her dissertation title “The Experience of Completion: How Female Counselor Educators Completed Their Doctoral Degree”, was a qualitative study that explored how women demonstrate resilience and motivation in finishing a doctoral degree. She has over 13 years experience as an LPC/LMHC, and has been a licensed mental health counselor in Ohio, Georgia, and Florida and is a Qualified Supervisor in Florida. She has taught for several universities at both the graduate and undergraduate level since 2003 and has taught virtually every counseling course availability, at the Master’s, EdS, and Doctoral level. Dr. Perjessy held several positions at Argosy University, Tampa-Sarasota, including the position of Director of Clinical Training, Coordinator of the CMHC program, and Coordinator of the CES program. Prior to that appointment, she was Assistant Professor at the University of West Georgia from 2013-2016. Currently, she is serving as President-Elect for the Florida Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (FACES) and is actively involved with SACES, as the Emerging Leader Co-Coordinator, and SACES Women’s Interest Network Co-Chair. She is a practicing clinician in private practice and has training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which she utilizes in her practice with adults and adolescents. She also offers trainings and workshops on Dialectical Behavior Therapy and has been an invited speaker to offer these workshops.

Research and Interests:

Postmodern approaches to supervision, teaching and clinical work has been a major area of research interest for Dr. Perjessy, who operates from a Humanistic and Post-Modern theoretical orientation. Her other professional and academic areas of interest include: Supervision, narrative/postmodern approaches to pedagogy, supervision, and clinical work; women’s issues, career development, doctoral education, and online education.


    NLU’s Chicago campus on South Michigan Avenue occupies five floors of the historic Peoples Gas Building. This landmark building, across the street from the Art Institute of Chicago and Grant Park, is easily accessible by train, bus and car and is surrounded by restaurants, parking lots/garages and shops.
