Christine Nelson Ed.D, joined NCE as Assistant Professor in January 2019 and will serve as Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership program.

Dr. Nelson’s career as an educator includes teaching and administrative experience in urban, suburban and rural public school districts. Her experiences as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Student Services, Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, have provided her with practical and current experiences in many facets of leadership. She characterizes herself as a servant leader who recognizes the value of public education as the foundation for providing opportunities for all students and families.

Dr. Nelson received her teaching credentials through Northern Illinois University, her Master’s degree in Urban Leadership through University of Illinois Chicago, and her Doctorate in Curriculum Leadership through Northern Illinois University. She has served as an adjunct professor in Ed. Leadership programs for NLU, Northern Illinois University and the University of St. Francis.

Dr. Nelson is the proud mother of three successful sons whose homes and careers are in Chicago. She lives with her husband and two dogs in Algonquin.

She is excited to begin her journey with National Louis University and appreciates the longstanding reputation of the university as a pioneer in preparation programs for future educators and leaders.

Research and Interests:

Dr. Nelson’s research interests include the impact of cultural capital on school and family relationships particularly in the realm of special education, and how implicit bias influences educational practice, policy and relationships.
