Areas of Expertise:

Mr. Manson is a licensed attorney (Illinois), a licensed nursing home administrator, (Illinois), and a Qualified Intellectual Development Professional (QIDP) (Illinois). For many years, he engaged in the private proactive of health law, representing health systems, hospitals, nursing homes, and other social service entities. Since 2010, he has been CEO of a not-for-profit agency providing residential and vocational services throughout Illinois to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 


As a practicing attorney, Mr. Manson has represented health care providers in both litigation and corporate maters. He served as General Counsel, Office of Federal Law & Regulation of the American Hospital Association and represented that Association before federal agencies and in the US Courts of Appeals. Representing a hospital client, he argued before the United States Supreme Court, winning a 5-4 decision. He is a past chairman of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association and a past President of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys. He has served as chairman of a hospital Institutional Review Board reviewing medical research and as chairman of a non-profit agency providing residential and other services to the homeless.

Research and Interests:

Mr. Manson has conducted research and experimental projects in social organization areas, including status inconsistency. His interests include complex organization theory and the application of psychological and sociological principles to not-for-profit management. He encourages students’ independent exploration of information and concepts for future application.

    NLU’s Chicago campus on South Michigan Avenue occupies five floors of the historic Peoples Gas Building.
