Biography:

Ayn Keneman is an Associate Professor in the National College of Education faculty, Early Childhood Education at National Louis University, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Keneman teaches courses in early childhood education, literacy instruction, human development and technology. Dr. Keneman's career as an educator includes 15 years as a public school teacher in Trenton, New Jersey, and Winnetka, Illinois and 6 years as a reading/learning disability specialist at The Trinity School in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Keneman's research on struggling readers led to the publication of her book: Literacy Leadership to Support Reading Improvement (Guilford Press, 2011).  Ayn is President of a SIG of the International Literacy Association, Organization of Teacher Educators of Literacy. She conducts literacy workshops (Daily Five, Guided Reading and Writer's Workshop) in an Apple distinguished School with a focus on embedding technology to transform and enhance the learning environment. She serves as a member of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) review team for elementary education programs. Ayn was awarded an ISBE Early Childhood grant (2013-2014) to strengthen partnerships with community colleges. She is a member of the Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Consortium with local Chicago Universities embedding pedagogy and projects in instruction for undergraduate teacher preparation programs at NLU. Dr. Keneman is conducting research with her co-author for a second book: Literacy Development and Engagement for all 21st Century Digital Natives.
