Biography:

Dr. JaNiece Elzy joined the faculty at National Louis University as Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Illinois Reading Recovery/Descubriendo La Lectura Center for Literacy in Fall 2016. She teaches courses for the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader program, which prepares literacy coaches and reading teachers for literacy leader roles in school districts. As Co-Director of the Illinois Reading Recovery/Descubriendo La Lectura Center for Literacy, she also supports a network of affiliated Reading Recovery and Descubriendo La Lectura teacher training sites in Illinois and Wisconsin. 

Before joining NLU, Dr. Elzy served in a variety of roles for school districts in the surrounding suburbs of Chicago, including classroom teacher, literacy support coach, reading recovery teacher, reading specialist, and literacy curriculum coordinator for grades PreK-5.

Research and Interests:

Dr. Elzy's current research focuses on studying expert teachers' discursive moves in an one-on-one literacy intervention, and how the teacher and students interactions affect accelerated literacy achievement for students struggling with literacy learning. 

Dr. Elzy is also interested in studying comprehensive literacy models for school improvement, as well as effective implementation of systems in prevention and literacy intervention.
