Stephen K. Curda, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the National College of Education (NCE) in the Technology in Education program and Special Assistant to the President for Veterans Education at National Louis University.

Dr. Curda holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology and has served in faculty and administrative positions at Florida State University, the University of Toledo and the University of West Florida. In addition he's been the Director of Distance Learning with both the Joint Special Operations University at Hurlburt Field, FL., and the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, AL.

Dr. Curda currently has two major areas of research that complement and support one another and that also integrate well into teaching and service. Dr. Curda's most recent energy has been spent designing, developing, and evaluating online courses for the Online Master’s Program in TIE program. He has coupled creative activity of designing and developing courses with conducting research on a variety of issues within the field of distance education and online learning. Dr. Curda's second program of research focuses on Assessment and Evaluation as a means to improve teaching. He has developed a program of research model and have been working on various aspects of the model over the last six years.

Since returning to National-Louis University from the yearlong mobilization and deployment from Afghanistan, Dr. Curda spent a great deal of time working on the Education to Employment grant funded by the McCormick Foundation. As part of NLU’s commitment to our currently serving military and veteran students, National Louis University’s “Veterans Program” was launched to provide support services for active and veteran military students. The objective of our program is to help our students smoothly transfer from serving in the military to transitioning into academia and eventually to a career in the civilian workplace. Unemployment and underemployment are serious problems in the United States Veteran population. Education is a proven and effective tool for increasing a population’s standard of living and lowering unemployment rates within that demographic. The GI Bill offers a generous incentive for veterans to return to school. However, few schools are adequately prepared to serve the unique needs of this group of students. National Louis University has positioned itself to be the premier learning facility for military members by employing a special team of educators, veterans and active military members to address veteran student needs, including: obtaining financial support and discounted tuition, course advising, and career services.
