Biography:

Tara Bryant-Edwards is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Master of Science in Marriage and Family therapy from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration in Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University. Over the past sixteen years she has utilized her clinical and organizational leadership skills to enhance therapeutic and institution-level interventions for survivors of trauma.

She started her career as a provider of mental health services for survivors of physical and sexual violence, progressed into clinical program oversight, and later used those experiences to train other professionals. As a clinician at the Child Abuse Unit for Studies, Education, and Services (CAUSES), she constructed psychosocial assessments; provided individual, family, and group therapy; and coordinated custody/permanency planning for children removed from their parents due to physical and sexual abuse. In her role as the Director of Counseling at Rape Victim Advocates, she trained and partnered with medical doctors and nurses, law enforcement officers, and attorneys to enhance their understanding of victims’ psychological distress and to enhance their intervention strategies. As the Director of Clinical Services at Khepra, she administratively and clinically supervised the mental health services delivered in group homes and independent living facilities for pregnant and parenting teens. She also facilitated vicarious trauma and burnout prevention workshops for crisis response workers and mental health professionals.

She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Counseling and Human Services program at National Louis University. She teaches mental health courses on family development, microskills and professional identity, interdisciplinary and multi-systemic interventions, and cultural competence.
