Learning Technologies Admissions Information

Pre-Admission Self-Assessment

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the Learning Technologies Program's NCATE Specialized Professional Association, has initiated a new requirement for students entering initial endorsement programs for Technology Facilitation. All incoming students are required to meet the ISTE Standards·Teachers (ISTE-T). Therefore admission requirements and procedures have been revised to meet this requirement. Candidates for an advanced degree in Learning Technologies will complete an online self-assessment of the ISTE-T prior to program admission. The Learning Technologies administrative assistant will inform the Admissions Office and program faculty when an applicant has completed the self-assessment. Applicants will review results of the self-assessment with the Learning Technologies faculty member to discuss the assessment and a plan, if needed, for meeting the ISTE-T through selected professional development activities and/or LSE500 Introduction to Learning Sciences and Technology (3 SH). Successful meeting of the ISTE-T will be recorded through a checkbox on the student's application checklist.

Admission Requirements for Technology Specialist Endorsement

The candidates for Technology Specialist Endorsement must provide documentation (a) that they hold an Illinois teaching license; and (b) that they have passed the Test of Academic Proficiency within five years of admission if licensed prior to July 1, 1988, or not licensed in the state of Illinois. If an individual has taken and passed the Test of Academic Proficiency for a license that was issued after July 1, 1988, she/he does not need to retake the Test of Academic Proficiency when applying for a subsequent endorsement. The Test of Academic Proficiency is the only test that satisfies this requirement. Applicants who do not wish to seek endorsement must submit a signed statement indicating they are not interested in obtaining the endorsement.

Technology Specialist Endorsement (K-12)

(Effective July 1, 2004)

Beginning July 1, 2004, students who complete the Learning Technologies Master's program may choose to apply for the Technology Specialist Endorsement (K-12). Candidates for endorsement must also hold a valid Illinois teaching license; pass the required state tests, including the Test of Academic Proficiency, the Illinois Assessment of Professional Teaching Skills (APT Special, for grades K-12), and the Illinois Content Area Test for Technology Specialist; and submit a completed application through the National College of Education.
