October 2018

WELCOME TO THE ADJUNCT BULLETIN

Dear Adjunct Colleagues,

We would like to thank Diane Salmon, Director of the Office of Teaching of Learning, for her leadership and the provision of excellent professional development offerings for our faculty community. Diane’s vision, talent, and hard work have been instrumental in providing opportunities for faculty growth. Beginning with the new academic year, Diane will be transitioning back to her faculty role in the National College of Education. We are sad to see her leave the Provost’s team, but understand her desire to fully focus her expertise in the service of teacher preparation programs.

We would like to announce the formation of the Teaching and Learning Collaborative. The Teaching and Learning Collaborative (TLC) is a stakeholder group committed to faculty continuous growth and improvement in teaching at NLU. Comprised of faculty and administrators from each of the colleges, the primary purpose is to share faculty development needs and plans identified within the colleges and to maintain a system of teaching and learning support that is responsive to the needs of our students and faculty. This collaborative will be co-chaired by Michael Carr, Vice Provost of Academic Programs and Faculty Development, and Catherine Honig, Associate Professor in the College of Professional Studies and Advancement. In addition, Diane Salmon will be a vital part of the transition she serving as a consultant to the collaborative.

Lastly, we are also pleased to announce a new position for Raquel Garcia. Raquel is now, Manager of Academic Operations and Faculty Development. She will maintain her current responsibilities related to the adjunct faculty but her leadership will expand to help support operations and development for all faculty. She will play an important role supporting the Teaching and Learning Collaborative.

We are looking forward to working together for collective impact in support of teaching excellence.
