Saib Othman, Ph.D.

Provost of National Louis University

In September 2019, Saib Othman, Ph.D. was appointed as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at National Louis University (NLU), bringing more than 20 years of experience and a record of achievements in academic and educational leadership. Dr. Othman is a member of the Reviewer Corps of the Higher Learning Commission and has a deep appreciation for the values and traditions of higher education. He is well-versed in the current challenges facing colleges and universities and the strategies that have been successfully implemented at thriving institutions.

Before joining NLU, Dr. Othman served as an Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Marian University-Indianapolis where he served on the President’s Cabinet and as the Provost’s chief deputy. He co-chaired a taskforce with the President to implement a strategic goal where he led the effort to establish a set of institutional learning outcomes that all Marian graduates will attain through core courses and high impact practices. He chaired a taskforce that prepared an institutional strategic plan to advance STEM research and education at Marian University. He restructured academic units to facilitate collaboration and increase operational efficiency and revised the faculty hiring and evaluation procedures. Dr. Othman led the development of a semester-long orientation and onboarding program for all new faculty and offered day-long leadership training workshops for department chairs and program directors across the university.

Before joining Marian University, he served in various teaching and leadership roles at Aurora University, Aurora, IL including Mathematics Department Chair, Assistant Dean, Dean of the College of Arts and Science and the Dean of the College of Graduate and Adult Studies. Dr. Othman helped secure grant funding from the US Department of Education and served as a Principal Investigator (PI) and a Co-PI for six grants with a total funding of more than $3.7 million dollars. Through the grant projects, he led the design and delivery of Masters programs and professional development workshops for in-service teachers in STEM fields. Additionally, he represented Aurora University on the Faculty Advisory Council to the Illinois Board of Higher Education from 2009 to 2012.

In 2017, he was selected as one of 45 administrators in higher education nationwide to participate in the Senior Leadership Academy, a year-long leadership program offered through the Council of Independent Colleges. In the summer of 2006 Dr. Othman participated in a National Science Foundation sponsored workshop on Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers (PMET). In his earlier years, he was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications workshop at the University of Minnesota in summer 1996.

Dr. Othman holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Physics from UAE University, a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Iowa. He has published multiple articles and presented at national conferences on STEM education including the annual MSP meeting hosted by the U. S Dept. of Education and the Higher Learning Commission Annual Conference.
