Social Science (B.A.)
Program Description:
If it takes a village to raise a child, then it requires a knowledge of anthropology, economics, history, political science and sociology to understand people and social institutions in today’s society. The NLU program in Social Science uses an interdisciplinary approach to examine how we relate to each other—and how social forces impact how we live, work and play. This program can also prepare you to teach secondary education in social science and seek an endorsement to teach from the State of Illinois.
How You Will Learn:
Social Science is taught using a cohort model, which means you will go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students. NLU graduates like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by their fellow students throughout the program. You can also choose a comprehensive degree program, selecting the individual courses that are of most interest
to you.
What You Will Learn:
- An expanded understanding of how social science theory applies to professional practice.
- How to apply analytical and critical thinking skills.
- How to analyze the impact of social forces and social agencies
upon society. - How to use quantitative reasoning in the social sciences.
