Frequently Asked Questions

- What is an accelerated degree-completion program?
- NLU offers four accelerated degree-completion programs: Applied Behavioral Sciences, Health Care Leadership, Management and Management Information Systems. These programs are ideal for self-directed learners who have a minimum of three years work experience.
- How long are course terms in an accelerated format program?
- Each term consists of three to four different courses—5 to 6 weeks in length. You finish one course before you start the next.
- How often will I attend class?
- These programs hold class only one night per week. Often class is held on campus or at a convenient location for your study group. You will have additional homework assignments and responsibilities.
- What is the difference between traditional and accelerated format programs?
- With accelerated, you take one class for 5 weeks and then another for 5 weeks and so on. The courses are sequentially pre-determined for you. In a standard format, you could possibly be taking 2 or more classes at the same time over a 10-week period. You pick and choose which classes you want.
- How soon can I complete my bachelor's degree?
- Depending on your transfer credit and program of choice, you may be able to graduate in as little as 13-24 months.
- Which programs accept transfer credits?
- At NLU, we offer special credit assessment and accelerated courses to shorten the length of our bachelor's degree-completion programs in Applied Behavioral Sciences, Health Care Leadership, Management and Management Information Systems.
- What if I am short on credits?
- You may be the perfect candidate for NLU's FOCUS program, which helps you earn the general education requirements, general education electives and free electives you need to graduate from NLU.
- What is FOCUS?
- FOCUS (Focus on Completing Undergraduate Studies) classes are not traditional; lecture is limited and group interaction is preferred. You're expected to take and active role in class discussions and relate your personal experiences to class assignments.
- What other ways can I earn credit?
- In addition to the credits earned from prior college coursework, you may earn credit by proficiency, examination or by portfolio. Talk to an enrollment representative for details.
