Elementary Education (B.A.) Type 03 Certification

Program Description:

Your undergraduate program in elementary education will lead to a Type 03 Certification, which will give you credentials needed to teach children from kindergarten through grade nine. Topics for discussion will range from ethics to analytics—and a combination of practical classroom experiences and professional studies lets you “hit the ground running” when you graduate.

This program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI).

How You Will Learn:

Elementary Education is taught using a cohort model—which means you will go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students. NLU graduates like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by their fellow students throughout the program.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to strengthen your presentation, written and oral skills.
  • How to write and evaluate curricula for lesson plans.
  • How to assess and evaluate student performance.
  • How to develop appropriate teaching methods by analyzing
    student needs.
  • How to use technology in the elementary education curriculum.

Where You Can Take the Program:

At NLU’s campuses in Chicago, Elgin, Lisle, Skokie (North Shore) and Wheeling.
