Students in the B.A. Applied Behavioral Sciences program, in addition to the requirements for the B.A., may choose an optional minor in Criminal Justice. At the undergraduate level, its broad focus studies the nature of man/woman, his/her conduct in society and the institutions established to address anti-social behavior in the pursuit of the common good. As a result, interest in the field appears to be universal and its study is useful to those engaged in any number of careers and professions, including counseling, education, health care, law and in any capacity with youth.
The trend in hiring and promotion at police and other criminal justice agencies throughout the nation is to select candidates with college credentials. Students of criminal justice who enter occupations in that field will possess recognized and valued credentials, be prepared to link academic theory with practical applications and enjoy enhanced prospects for success. The U.S. Department of Labor forecasts job growth of up to 35 percent in several criminal justice careers.
