Annually, an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree-granting institutions of higher learning in Illinois is chosen to receive the prestigious Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award.
Student Laureate Honors
The student selected will represent National Louis University at one of the most distinguished gatherings in the state, the Thirty-eighth Annual Student Laureate Award Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 3, 2012, in the Hall of Representatives, Old State Capitol, Springfield, Illinois. Governor Pat Quinn, President of the Academy, has been invited to present the awards.
The Student Laureate will also be honored at National Louis University’s annual Student Awards Ceremony in May 2013, and will be seated with the Platform Party at the Commencement Ceremony on June 22, 2013. The Lincoln Academy will present the following to the Student Laureate in recognition of outstanding achievement:
- The Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Medallion
- A certificate of achievement, and
- A monetary grant in the amount of $500
Criteria for Nomination

Outstanding academic excellence and scholastic achievement (including a GPA of 3.5 or above).

Demonstration of leadership in extracurricular activities on campus or in the greater community.

Be classified as a full-time Senior, graduating during the 2012-2013 academic year
-
No pending disciplinary problems.
Application & Scoring
Your application will be scored on three criteria: Scholarship & Academic Achievement, Honors & Awards, and Activities & Involvement.
You must submit the following materials for your application to be complete:
Personal Statement-Please write a personal statement explaining how your experiences and achievements make you a candidate for Student Laureate. Include a brief biological sketch including work experience, involvement, other awards received, and life situations which have shaped you.Please include your Name, NLU Student ID number, Home Campus, and Contact Information (Mailing Address, Phone Number and Email Address)
Letter of Reference-A candidate must submit one written reference on his/her behalf. This letter should be written by someone who has personal knowledge of your academic and/or extracurricular experiences. Choose your reference wisely, these weigh heavily when evaluating applications. It is helpful to give your reference a copy of this information page. If you are a faculty or staff member nominating a student, the student will be notified that they have been nominated and asked to complete a personal statement so that their application is complete.
