Tutoring Appointment Guidelines
Before your appointment:
- Call to make an appointment well in advance to ensure tutor availability.
- Keep your appointments.
- If you need to cancel or will be late, please call 312-261-3374
- Come Prepared.
- Bring completed homework assignments (must be neat and legible).
- Be aware that tutors are available to answer questions, discuss and address assignment issues. They are not to do the assignment for you or with you.
- Prepare specific questions to ask tutors.
- Bring all relevant materials (textbook, resources, worksheets, pencils/pens)
- Bring completed homework assignments (must be neat and legible).
During your appointment:
- Actively participate in tutoring session.
- Take notes and respond to tutors’ comments, feedback, and/or instructions.
- Be open to criticism and new ideas.
- Be prepared to make corrections or edits according to tutors' feedback.
After your appointment:
- Feel free to schedule another appointment (Reminder: Students are only allowed one hour of tutoring per subject a week unless they have filled out a referral form signed by instructor).
- Before returning to your next appointment, make all necessary edits/revisions/corrections as discussed with tutor.
Online Tutoring
SMARTHINKING provides online tutoring for NLU students. With Smarthinking you can:
- Connect with an e-structor now
- Meet with a tutor online, post a question, and have a conversation back and forth through text chat
- Submit your writing
- Submit a writing assignment to a tutor and receive feedback on that assignment usually within 24 hours.
- Submit a question
- Submit a question and receive an offline reply from a tutor within 24 hours.
