Your Promise to Us:
- Communicate, in both written and verbal forms, with the Career Development Office staff in the same way you would with an employer-- a high level of professionalism is expected. If you do not know what this means, please ask us for guidance.
- Come prepared to each appointment with questions or materials for discussion.
- Though we know emergencies come up, due to the high volume of requests for appointments, the Career Development Office asks for a 24-hour appointment cancellation notice so that another student or alumni may use that time. Call or email the office, and if you will be more than 15 minutes late, your advisor may have to reschedule the appointment based on availability.
- Be active in the advising process-- ask questions when you do not understand a concept, task, or method.
- Keep a record of your progress toward meeting your goals and bring it with you to every advising session.
- Be open to developing and clarifying your professional interests, skills, values, and goals.
- Research career fields and opportunities as appropriate.
- Accept responsibility for your decisions, behaviors and consequences.

- Keep regular office hours and be adequately available to meet with students/alumni either in person or by virtual means (phone appointments).
- Help students and alumni explore and identify career interests, skills/abilities, values.
- Help students and alumni clarify their career/life goals.
- Help students and alumni in the development of their decision-making skills.
- Be knowledgeable about career-related opportunities by participating in various training sessions to keep informed and current in the field of career development.
- Refer students to other appropriate campus resources when needed.
