Is there an age restriction?
No - but most members are between the ages of 55 and 90.
Do I get credit?
No. These are non-credit courses. Members take courses for the pure pleasure of learning.
Are there tests and grades?
No. The only motivation is love of learning.
What about parking?
Free, covered parking is available directly outside the 5202 Old Orchard Road building.
How many courses may I take a term?
Most members take two or three, but some take as many as 5 courses in a term. It is up to you.
What if I go away for the winter or travel during the semester?
Most of our members do travel and some are out of town for the winter months. Since there are no attendance requirements, missing a class is not a problem but we do ask that you tell your coordinators ahead of time that you will be absent. In the spring we offer several 10-week study groups especially designed for snowbirds.
Am I required to lead a study group discussion?
Members in our LLI program are not required to lead a class discussion but most people do end up volunteering after attending for a semester or two. We do offer discussion leader training seminars and you’ll find that our coordinators are very willing to help you prepare to lead a class.
Can I bring a guest?
Enthusiasm for our program is contagious and referrals are our best marketing. We encourage every LLI member to bring guests to classes and/or other events. Also, before joining LLI, we urge you to try out a few classes or special events to make sure that our program offers what you’re looking for.
