Candidates who have completed all program and state requirements may be recommended by National Louis University for an Illinois state certificate by entitlement. A certificate is issued by the state of Illinois, authorizing the holder to teach or work at a specific grade or age level, or to serve in a specific role in Illinois schools.
An initial certificate entitles the holder to begin teaching.
National Louis University offers initial teacher certification programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, and Secondary Education.
Teachers who hold an Illinois teaching certificate in one of the initial teaching areas may apply for subsequent certification through National Louis University through a state-approved standards-based sequence of courses.
Subsequent certifications are available by entitlement in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education, as well as an advanced certification for the Superintendent's Endorsement.
Advanced certificates require a bachelor's degree, and often prior teacher certification and experience. These programs are offered only at the graduate level.
Advanced certifications offered by entitlement through National Louis University include Reading Specialist, Technology Specialist., School Counselor, School Nurse, School Psychologist, Principal/General Administration, Special Education Director, and Superintendent.
