Since 1886, we’ve trained thousands of teachers. Our instructors bring both academic skills and their extensive leadership experience to the classroom, which brings unique depth to NLU’s Master of Education programs.

Career Outlook
Employment for school administrators is projected to grow about 8 percent between 2008 and 2018. Job opportunities should be excellent due to a large number of expected retirements and fewer applicants.1
Convenient 18–22 Month Formats
NLU’s Administration and Supervision program is offered in two convenient formats designed to fit your professional and personal commitments: a traditional on-campus format and a blended format that combines on-campus courses with online instruction.
Master of Education (M.Ed.): The M.Ed. degree is designed for certified professional teachers seeking advanced preparation for higher levels of professional competence in the classroom.
Education Specialist (Ed.S.): The Ed.S. degree is a post-master, pre-doctoral degree designed to meet the needs of school leaders who have completed their master’s level work and need advanced specialization in the areas of their master’s concentration.
Additional Program Requirements
A required internship component is part of the NLU endorsement program. Students will complete a variety of significant school leadership experiences and will have an internship advisor from NLU to support them throughout their program.
The internship is based on the state of Florida requirements. Candidates will complete a set of competencies designed to prepare them to be effective principals.
The internship also includes video evaluation of teacher performance, mock interviews, resume building, etc. Graduating students will be eligible for the Florida Educational Leadership Test.
The non-certification track replaces the 6 semester hours of internship (EDL598) with electives in the field of leadership or education. Recommended electives are EDL510, Leadership and Organizational Development of Schools, and EDL512, Communication and Technology Skills for School Leaders.
State Certification Requirements

In addition to NLU graduation requirements in the Administration and Supervision/Educational Leadership program, Florida statutes require passing scores on the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) and professional development in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Please note: State Boards of Education may change the state licensure, certification and/or endorsement requirements at any time and without prior notice. Candidates will be bound by the requirements in place when applying for certification, not by the certification requirements in place when beginning their program. That is, the state may specify that a new regulation is immediately applicable to all candidates with no provisions made for candidates who began their program under different regulations.
