Biography:
Dr. Sadia Warsi is a tenured Associate Professor. She joined the special education program at National Louis University in 2003. She teaches an array of graduate classes in the special education program related to Literacy, Social and Emotional Development of Students with Disabilities, Assessment of Students with Disabilities and Frameworks and Perspectives in Disability. She has also taught classes in the alternative education programs at NLU. Sadia has extensive experience in working with pre-service and in-service teachers in urban educational settings.
Her current research interests include the role of children’s literature in self-contained and inclusive special education classrooms in urban settings and also with parents and children who are residing in homeless shelters and families of children with disabilities who have refugee status in the United States.
Sadia’s experiences and influences as a student in India, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Canada along with her work with immigrant families of students with disabilities and with children in homeless shelters inform her teaching, service and research at NLU.

Research and Interests:
Dr. Warsi is currently conducting her research in the urban residency programs, researching how in-service teachers utilize children's literature in their self-contained classes to facilitate the social emotional growth of their students with disabilities. In addition, she is continuing her study on Muslim immigrant parent involvement in special education in the United States.
