Biography:

Seema Imam has served National Louis University in Elementary and Middle Level Teacher Education teaching since 1996. She teaches many courses in the pre-service teacher education programs including the Middle Level endorsement courses. She is currently focusing on teaching and learning with mobile devices and web 2.0 tools in pre-service classrooms, elementary and middle level classrooms. She is a strong advocate of teaching with diversity in mind.

Seema Imam served in the Chicago Public Schools from 1975-1990 as a 6th grade classroom teacher and as a teacher of Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Disorder students. She served as the founding principal of one of Chicago's largest Islamic schools from 1990-1995 and has been a teacher educator at National Louis University for the past 17 years. Seema is co-author of a children's book with her son Ibrahim titled, I am Listening, a book about a classroom teacher wearing hijab (Muslim woman's head covering) and learning that it is important to say children's names correctly. Seema is also author of a chapter entitled, Separation of Church and What in the book published by Sense Publishers, titled, Muslim Voices in Schools, the winner of the 2009 Phillip C. Chinn Multicultural Book award. It reflects much of her research on the negative public curriculum that depicts Muslims negatively. Seema is often an invited speaker and she serves as Board Member of the Islamic School League of America, a national educational initiative to foster success in the 250 Islamic Schools across the nation.

Seema currently serves NLU as a Senator from National College of Education in her second term and was the elected Chair of the Faculty Senate 2009-2010. She Co-chaired the University Leadership Council 2011-2012 and Co-Chaired the university's Diversity and Inclusion Council 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.

In October of 2008 Seema received a Prestigious award, the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from IQRA International Educational Foundation at their 25th Anniversary Dinner.
