Founded in 1886, the National College of Education (NCE) at National Louis University is one of the oldest and most respected schools of education in the country. We confer more graduate education degrees on Illinois teachers and administrators than any college in the state. Who We Are
Founded by pioneering education reformer Elizabeth Harrison, NCE has always been a leader in progressive education. We might be one of the oldest schools of education in the country, but we’re also one of the most innovative. We believe that the most effective teaching methodologies are backed by solid research. The results have been impressive. NCE research and advocacy created the kindergarten movement in America, established bachelor's degrees for elementary school teachers, founded the PTA and laid the groundwork for the Head Start program. And 59 NCE-educated teachers have won the Illinois Golden Apple Award, more than any other school of education in the state.
